Overview

optzi! uses four consent categories: Necessary, Analytics, Marketing, and Functional. You can rename them and edit their descriptions. You cannot add, remove, or reorder them.

Before you begin

  • Open the optzi! site you want to change.

  • You need permission to edit the banner. Only the account owner can deploy the change to the live website.

Why you cannot delete a category

These four categories are the purposes visitors can accept or reject. They also group the scripts on your site.

If you leave a name blank, optzi! asks you to name it because every category needs a label. Clearing the name does not remove the category.

If you do not use a category, leave it in the list and do not assign scripts to it. See Categorize Scripts in optzi!. Necessary is required and cannot be turned off.

Edit a category name or description

  1. Open your site in optzi!.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Banner, then Design.

  3. Scroll to Consent categories.

Consent categories list showing Necessary with a Required lock, then Analytics, Marketing, and Functional.
  1. To rename a category, edit the name field next to its number. Renaming changes the wording visitors see. It does not ask returning visitors to choose again.

  2. To change the explanation visitors read, edit Description.

Important: Changing a description is consent-impacting. Returning visitors will be asked to choose again. Change a description only when the meaning of that category has changed.

  1. Necessary shows a lock and the word Required. Visitors cannot turn it off.

  2. Click Save changes in the site header.

  3. If you see Deploy or Deploy changes, click it so the live website updates. If Deploy is unavailable, save your changes first. Only the account owner can deploy.

How to test the result

  1. If your website platform has its own publish step, publish the site after you deploy in optzi!.

  2. Open the live public website in a private or incognito window. Do not test only in your site editor or preview.

  3. Open the optzi! panel from the banner or the preferences button.

  4. Confirm all four categories are listed, with the names and descriptions you saved.

  5. Confirm Necessary cannot be turned off.

  6. If you only renamed a category, a returning visitor who already chose should not be asked again.

  7. If you changed a description, a returning visitor should be asked to choose again.

  8. Check a couple of other pages, not only the homepage, and confirm important site controls still work (purchase, booking, signup, or contact).

Troubleshooting

  • It says you need to name the category. A blank name is not a delete. Put the name back. There is no remove control.

  • You cannot find a delete button. The four categories are a fixed set. Unused categories stay in the list. Do not assign scripts to a category you do not use.

  • The live site still shows the old names. You may have saved in optzi! but not deployed. Click Deploy or Deploy changes.

  • Returning visitors are asked to choose again and you did not expect that. A description change re-asks them. A rename does not.

  • The editor looks right, but the public site does not. Test the published website in a new private window. Some platforms keep an older copy for a short time.

When to contact optzi! support

Contact support if you have saved and deployed the change, tested the published site in a private window, and the category names or descriptions still do not match. Tell us the site domain and which category you edited. Do not send passwords, secret keys, or private account information.
